Individual Therapy

Our individual therapy program offers a safe, private space for teens to process their experiences, build resilience, and feel empowered in their healing. Each session is led by a trauma-informed therapist who specializes in working with adolescents impacted by sexual abuse or other traumatic experiences.

What to Expect in Therapy

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all - our therapists meet each teen where they are, emotionally and developmentally. Sessions may include:

  • Exploring difficult emotions and learning how to cope with them

  • Building trust and safety in relationships

  • Developing healthy communication and self-advocacy skills

  • Strengthening identity, confidence, and self-worth

  • Using creative or movement-based tools for expression (when appropriate)

Therapy is confidential, compassionate, and paced according to the teen's comfort and readiness.

Consent & Confidentiality

In the state of Maryland, teens are legally allowed to consent to their own mental health treatment starting at age 12. This means that a teen can choose to begin therapy without a parent or guardian's involvement or permission, though we always encourage family support when it's helpful and appropriate.

We take confidentiality seriously. Our therapists explain what privacy means in therapy and the few limits to it (such as safety concerns), so teens know exactly what to expect.

Caregiver Involvement

While sessions are private to help teens feel safe, we recognize that healing often involves the whole family. Our program includes:

  • A required caregiver intake session before therapy begins for clients under the age of 12

  • Optional check-ins or consultations throughout the process, with the teen's consent

  • Guidance on how caregivers can support their teen's healing outside of sessions

  • Access to caregiver support sessions and resources

We value a balance between the teen's need for confidentiality and the caregiver's role in their healing journey.
